Makgato urges BDP members to win Gaborone

29 Nov 2015

The chairperson of the ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) Women’s Wing, Ms Dorcas Makgato has urged members of her organisation to work hard in order to win all constituencies in Gaborone.

Opening the Gaborone BDP region conference on Saturday (November 29), Ms Makgato said members should take the war to the opposition who have launched an onslaught on the ruling party winning four out of five Gaborone constituencies in the process.

She said the BDP has strategies to take the war to the opposition parties and called upon them to desist from fighting amongst themselves.

Ms Makgato said BDP members should remain united, saying failure to do so results with disgruntled members.

She said they should learn to compromise and give each other an opportunity to run for positions.

Ms Makgato, who is also the Minister of Health and MP for Sefhare-Ramokgonami, said they should continue recruiting new members as numbers were important, adding that currently the Botswana Congress Party (BCP) was facing challenges hence the right time to recruit its members.

She said they should desist from viewing new recruits as a threat to their political interests.

Ms Makgato further talked about the Economic Stimulus Programme (ESP), which the government has come up with to inject economic growth by accelerating development projects.

For his part, Gaborone region chairperson, Mr Bontsi Monare said his party has to come up with strategies that would lead the party to the 2019 general elections.

He said they need to double their efforts, saying a number of youths were choosing the opposition over the ruling party while public sector unions were no longer in rhythm with the BDP.

Mr Monare said the tide has turned as previously they did not struggle to win the confidence of civil servants. Ends
