Boko blames ruling party
31 Aug 2015
Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) leader, Mr Duma Boko has blamed the ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) for the water and electricity crises currently faced by the country.
Addressing a rally in Francistown on Saturday August 29, Mr Boko said the country was facing a water and electricity crises because of the lack of visionary leadership by the BDP.
He said if the ruling party had a vision, it could have realised that the country would experience water and electricity challenges because it has all the resources at its disposal to have made the analysis.
Mr Boko, who is also Gaborone Bonnington North MP, said the UDC was the only party that has solutions to challenges facing the country.
He said the challenges that the country was experiencing were too big to be solved through programmes such as Ipelegeng and hand-outs, adding that Batswana need to be empowered to solve their own problems.
On other issues, he said in 2019 when the UDC attains power, it would prosecute everybody who illegally gained wealth during the BDP tenure.
He also accused the BDP government of denying opposition parties airtime in the national television and radio stations.
Francistown South MP, Mr Wynter Mmolotsi said there was need for Batswana to change the government in the 2019 general elections.
He said Mr Boko was the only leader competent to lead Batswana to the solutions to their problems.
Mr Mmolotsi said Batswana have been voting for the BDP since independence, and that they were only rewarded with increasing problems such as unemployment.
He urged Francistown residents to ensure that in the next general elections, they vote for UDC representatives in all the three constituencies.
The UDC deputy leader and Gaborone Bonnington South MP, Mr Ndaba Gaolathe said the UDC was the only party that could better rule the country.
He said this was evidenced by the changes the UDC MPs introduced in the parliamentary committee of finance.
Mr Gaolathe explained that since the committee was formed it had no guidelines, but that the UDC MPs came up with the guidelines for the committee.
The UDC’s Francistown East parliamentary candidate for the 2014 general elections, Ms Theresa Mmolawa thanked the constituents who voted for her party in the elections.
She said although the party did not win the parliamentary seat, it kept other candidates on their toes. She said taking into consideration the period it joined the race, it did well.
Ms Mmolawa decried that there was lack of accommodation for public officers, and that there was shortage of drugs at health facilities.ENDS
