Umbrella for Democratic Change councillor for Mosanta ward in Mochudi West, Mr Tona Mooketsi has appealed to voters in Good Hope/Mabule constituency to vote for Kgosi Lotlaamoreng II in Saturday’s (August 15) bye-elections.
The Good Hope/Mabule bye-elections follow the resignation of UDC’S Mr James Mathokgwane.
The Saturday bye-election will pit the Botswana Congress Party (BCP), Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) and Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC). The three will be represented by Messrs Comfort Maruping, Eric Molale and Kgosi Lotlaamoreng II respectively.
In last year’s elections, Mr Mathokgwane got 6 712 votes, Mr Kitso Mokaila of the BDP got 6 101 and BCP’s Mr Lesego Gatogang trailed behind with 717.
Mr Mooketsi said it would be a disgrace should Barolong fail to emulate other tribes that have honoured their chiefs by their votes and thereby usher them into Parliament. KgosiLotlaamoreng told the gathering that the visit was his party’s efforts to solicit votes for the Saturday bye-elections.
Kgosi Lotlaamoreng II said he was particularly humbled by the overwhelming support shown by the people of the constituency ever since the commencement of campaigns.
That withstanding, Kgosi Lotlaamoreng warned Lepurung constituents not to be duped by the ruling party political devices of pampering voters with an assortment of gifts in expectation for votes.
Concerning his no-show during the Botswana Television live political debates, Kgosi Lotlaamoreng said he did not attend because he had more pressing issues to attend to.
For his part, Mr Duma Boko said it was important for Good Hope/Mabule residents to introspect and reflect on their lives, and to use the vote to change their lives for the better by voting for Kgosi Lotlaamoreng II.
Mr Boko said the BDP government cares little about Batswana, adding that poor working conditions, poor health system and many others were testimony.
Mr Boko said Saturday gives Barolong a chance to take Kgosi Lotlaamoreng to the national assembly. Meanwhile, former BCP publicity secretary, Mr Akanyang Magama said his party did not hold any political rally yesterday as it was engaged in a vigorous house to house campaign. ENDS
