Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) has launched Kgosi Lotlaamoreng II as its candidate for the upcoming Good Hope –Mabule parliamentary bye election.
Speaking during the launch former Bakwena regent Kgosikwena Sebele, said Kgosi Lotlaamoreng II was the relevant candidate to represent the constituency in Parliament as he has grown with the constituents and knows all their needs from grass roots.
He said Kgosi Lotlaamoreng II was well vested with the constituency needs and could articulate them well in Parliament as he was born and bred and in the constituency as a born leader.
Maun West Member of Parliament Mr Tawana Moremi also said Kgosi Lotlaamoreng was the rightful candidate as he has a good track record as a leader.
Mr Moremi therefore implored the constituents to vote Kgosi Lotlaamoreng II adding that it will be the first time in the history of bogosi in Botswana and a shame for a Kgosi not to be elected by its people.
He said Kgosi Lotlaamoreng II was still Kgosi as that was his birth right.
“What he has done now is only to relinquish his duties for a while in order to represent you better as a politician,” he said.
A representative of the African National Congress Party (ANC) from Mafikeng South Africa Mr Themba Gwabeni said he was delighted to see Kgosi Lotlaamoreng II being “an independent minded leader willing to stand up for change.”
Mr Gwabeni said Africa was going through a revolution that needed leaders who know that everybody has the right to its country’s wealth.
UDC leader Mr Duma Boko presented Kgosi Lotlaamoreng II as a leader with “radical gentleness” who needed to be given a chance to prove his mettle as a Member of Parliament.
Mr Boko who is the Gaborone West North MP said opposition parties in Botswana were going through tough times that needed strong willed men who are ready to withstand the tough times to represent their people well.
He said it was important for elected leaders to live up to their promises.
He said the Good Hope – Mabule constituency was one of the constituencies that for a long time had been development deprived and therefore needed representatives like Kgosi Lotlaamoreng in Parliament.
When taking to the podium Kgosi Lotlaamoreng II said he was more than ready and on a clean conscious that “I have taken the relevant step to go to Parliament and speak for my people.”
He thanked all those who have rallied behind him ever since he expressed interest in standing for the bye – elections as a Parliamentary candidate.
He said having grown up in the undeveloped constituency, he was coming to rescue the constituency with the aim of fast forwarding developments for the area. Ends
