BPP women youth to meet in Tsamaya
15 Jul 2015
The Botswana People’s Party (BPP) youth and women’s wings will meet in Tsamaya over the President’s Day holidays to discuss key issues that would help in shaping the future of the party.
According to the party’ Secretary General Mr Shathiso Tambula, the joint congress would deliberate on internal party issues such as party visibility as well as its effectiveness in making an impact on Botswana’s political landscape.
Mr Tambula, who was speaking in an interview recently, said it was apparent that the BPP had over the years paled into obscurity; noting that the leadership had thus seen the need for the youth and women’s wings, being key party structures, to be revived first in efforts to turn the fortunes of the party around.
He said the two wings would also use the congress as a platform through which to gauge how they have been performing and devise strategies as to what could be done to make them more effective such that they could be able to better contribute to the growth of the party.
On external issues that would be discussed, the Secretary General highlighted among others democracy, the water and electricity situation as well as youth unemployment.
He said both wings were not able to meet in past years because of the tight programme since the party was dealing with unity amongst opposition parties.
He also said last year the party had met with its two partners, the Botswana Movement for Democracy (BMD) and Botswana National Front (BNF) during a conference in Serowe and had not had the opportunity again to meet on its own. ENDS
