Mozambique political situation stable

07 Jul 2015

An official of Mozambique Liberation Front (FRELIMO) says the political situation in Mozambique remains calm.

Speaking during Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) congress, FRELIMO’s Esperanga Bias said Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi was hard at work ensuring that peace prevailed at the Portuguese speaking country.

She said since his swearing in this year in January, the president had been visiting provinces preaching peace and warning people against opposition who were reportedly brewing chaos.

However, Ms Bias informed the BDP congress that Mozambican president continually engaged Mozambique National Resistance (RENAMO) for in the name of peace building.

“In general, the situation remains stable,” Ms Bias said through a translator who emphasised that the president continued spreading messages of peace throughout the country.

On regional issues Ms Bias observed that there was need for political education in order to curb situations like the recent xenophobic attacks in South Africa.

On other issues Ms Bias revealed that her country was rebuilding following the floods that destroyed infrastructure. She also appealed for support from BDP. Ends
