Khama sounds warning bells

06 Jul 2015

Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) President, Lt Gen. Seretse Khama Ian Khama, has warned that he will crack the whip on members who attack the party in the media.

He said he would also instruct the new communications and disciplinary committees to monitor mainline and social media  in order to take action against perpetrators.

Speaking during the BDP congress on July 3, President Khama told party members who continue to attack the party that they were in violation of the party constitution and described them as irresponsible and ill-disciplined.

“There are those who still tend to comment negatively about the party in papers, on facebook and on the radio,” said President Khama. He also sounded a warning to a Member of Parliament whom he said reportedly attacked the party on media.

President Khama discouraged divisions as a result of central committee elections outcome, stating that desisting from divisions would lure and entice many to the party.

“If we become intolerant and divisive, it will lead to the losing of seats at elections as happened last year in some constituencies,” said the BDP President.

Prior to the elections, President Khama pleaded with democrats to vote into office people who would put the party first. He said the BDP still remained the party of choice, arguing that the opposition was hopeless, clueless and pointless.

“So if you are hopeless, clueless and pointless, that makes them of no use to this country and therefore useless,” President Khama reiterated.

He said the party had the best people in all aspects and that the BDP was the only party that could take Botswana to greater heights and achieve all expectations. ENDS
