Tshotlego pulls out of BDP race

Lack of adequate resources for campaign has forced Mr Dithapelo Tshotlego to pull out of the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) chairmanship race.
The former chairman of the BDP National Youth League announced in a press conference in Gaborone on Wednesday (June 3) that he would no longer stand for the post.
The BDP would hold its elective congress in Mmadinare on July 10. Mr Tshotlego said he had believed that he was the right person to bring changes to the party and help restructuring it, but two developments led to him withdrawing his candidature.
“One of the reasons why I am pulling out is because, as everyone of us my be aware, it is tough without enough funding for youth like me to succeed in politics. Another reason is that I have realised that the other candidates were ahead of me in campaigning,” Mr Tshotlego stated.
Mr Tshotlego said some rivals had already made inroads, therefore it was worthless for him to continue with the race from a disadvantaged position.
“I urge democrats to vote for Ms Tebelelo Seretse. I have already consulted my followers and asked them to back Mma Seretse. She has worked hard for the party in the past, and I believe she is the right person to lead the party,” Mr Tshotlego added.
Mr Tshotlego denied that his backing of Ms Seretse was not motivated by factionalism. Ends
