The Botswana Congress Party (BCP), on Saturday (May 30), won Bokone Ward bye-election in the Mochudi West Constituency.

The BCP candidate, Mr Molefe Mosothwane, garnered 453 votes; followed by Ms Lesego Matlapeng of Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) with 404 votes and the Umbrella for Democratic Change's (UDC) Ms Boitumelo Sedumedi trailed behind with 271 votes.

Bokone Ward seat fell vacant following the resignation of Mr Titus Kebuileng, who won the seat under the UDC in the last general elections. Mr Mosothwane said he was overjoyed that his party had won the ward, adding that everything went according to plan.

“This is politics and anything could happen, but I am happy that today I have won despite the challenges I faced during the campaign period and I am going to work hard for this ward,” he said.

Mr Mosothwane said he was looking forward to representing his people at the Kgatleng District Council to address issues such as internal roads, drainage problems and sewerage issues.

He said he would continue to work with those who lost because they had to pull together as a team if they were to develop the ward. The losing BDP candidate said she accepted the results citing that she had fought well and that she felt great for what she had achieved.

She said she would assist Mr Mosothwane going forward because she liked helping and caring for people. Mr Kebuileng, the former councilor who resigned from the seat in question, said he was disappointed at the results especially that they won the ward with a big margin in the general elections.

In the last elections, UDC won the seat with 590 votes, followed by BCP with 482 votes and BDP with 432 votes. Ends
