Central District Council is in the process of fostering working relations with Lephalale Local Municipality (an equivalent of a sub-district), South Africa, in an effort to benchmark against best practices on revenue generation to improve the lives of people of the two local authorities.

When welcoming the Lephalale Local Municipality delegates, Central District Council (CDC) chairperson, Mr Peter Williams said the council was willing to work with Lephalale Local Municipality especially on cross-border projects.

“We hope to continue with the good relations that we have especially in the improvement of cross-border project development, such as the envisaged construction of Platjaan Bridge across Limpopo River,” Mr Williams emphasised. 

He said the Lephalale municipality had an impressive track record as demonstrated by its capability to run revenue generating projects. 

Consequently, Mr Williams felt that the CDC needed an ambitious plan to start some revenue generating projects so that in times of need, the council could continue servicing the people without fail. 

By so doing, the CDC would be endeavouring to address some of the national priority areas which the district aims to implement in the financial year 2015/16. 

He informed the visiting delegation that CDC, the largest district in the country, boasts natural resources such as diamonds in Boteti area, copper and nickel in Selebi Phikwe and salt in Sowa.

For his part, the visiting acting Mayor, councillor Njuru Motebele said his municipality wanted to foster relations with neighbouring countries especially Botswana. He felt it proper for them to twin with one of the CDC Sub-districts in fostering their relationship with CDC. 

Serowe Administration Authority chairperson, Mr Mpho Keoreme reiterated the need to have revenue generating projects.  Mr Keoreme was optimistic the relations would yield positive results for the district. ENDS
