OP rebuts media reports
22 Apr 2015
The Office of the President (OP) has categorically denied reports that the President Lt. General Seretse Khama Ian Khama co-owns a farm with Mr Thapelo Olopeng in the Mmashoro area.
The Sunday Standard of April 19, 2015 carries a story in its front page that suggests that the President co-owns a farm with Mr Olopeng in Mmashoro area and also highlights that there is exploration of natural gas thereat and insinuates that fracking is being done with the tacit knowledge of the owners.
A press release from OP states that the President does not co own any farm with Mr Olopeng and will by extension not be privy to the business dealings thereof.
The release says it finds it quite mischievous and disingenuous of the newspaper and Aleesi Makgekgenene to carry out such a story without validating the facts with the Office of the President.
“We wish to highlight and reiterate that once again we find it very unfortunate that the latest innuendo appears to be part of a continuous pattern on the part of the Sunday Standard newspaper to undermine the good name of the President through misinformation and on numerous occasions outright falsehoods.” ENDS
