Residents in favour of existing polling stations
27 Mar 2013
Residents of Peleng West in Lobatse say the three polling stations that were used in the past two general elections in the area should stay as they are.
The residents told a delimitation committee consultative meeting that had visited their township that they did not see any reason why the polling g stations should be changed because in the previous general elections they did not have problems regarding them.
They suggested however, that Crescent area should be part of Peleng West while Botswana Railways flats should remain with Boswelatlou location.
One of the residents Ms Dorcus Sephetsolo suggested that instead of Marang Butchery, Modern Day Care Centre should be used as a polling station because it was better in terms of unfavorable weather conditions.
Earlier on when addressing the residents, the chairperson of the Demarcation Committee Mr Richard Senthumoleng had said the commission was appointed by the Independent Electoral Commission to execute the demarcation exercise.
Mr Senthumoleng asked the residents to submit any changes that they need on their boundaries and polling stations. He informed the residents that the information from their submissions would assist his committee to determine, establish and name polling stations in their area.
He however explained that the Demarcation Commission performed its function as outlined in section 5 of the Electoral Act. He said Lobatse constituency remained as it was after their submissions to the delimitation commission, adding that all in all Lobatse has 12 council wards – eleven in the township and the other one in the Lobatse farms.
He asked the residents to take the exercise seriously because whatever they were going to submit will be used in the 2014 and 2019 general elections. ENDS
