President not involved in routine law enforcement

In the context of various reports in the private news media the Office of the President wishes to inform the public that there is absolutely no truth to the published rumours that President Lt Gen. Seretse Khama Ian Khama was involved in the reported arrest of a certain Ogaufi Nthobelang.
It may be further noted that His Excellency does not involve himself in routine law enforcement matters.
In this respect we find the suggestion in today’s (13/3/15) edition of the Botswana Guardian newspaper that the “President Khama allegedly sanctioned arrest” to be especially irresponsible, more so that no attempt was ever made by the editor of the said paper to verify the allegation with either the responsible law enforcement authorities or this office.
