DCEC officers do not sell files

10 Mar 2015

It is not a norm for the DCEC to respond to media allegations. However, we found it fit to respond to an article carried on the front page of the Sunday Standard of 8th to 14th March 2015 captioned “Inside the murky world of DCEC dockets trade”.

The article makes some allegations which are misleading to the public and very unfortunate. It is not true that the DCEC is investigating some of its officers for selling or trying to sell investigation dockets.

The issue of a DCEC officer who has since been dismissed from office following internal administrative recourse had nothing at all to do with the sale of files or dockets.  It would be improper for the DCEC to comment on allegations regarding matters that are before court.

We would like to reassure the public that operations at the DCEC are not sanctioned by a single person.  Matters of investigations are held by a team in order to close all loopholes that may be available for bribery and no DCEC officer conducts investigations single handedly. ENDS
