North West committee to revive BDP structures

16 Feb 2015

The newly elected Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) North West committee has pledged to revive party structures in buildup for the 2019 general elections.

Speaking at the BDP press conference on February 13, the newly appointed BDP North West chairperson, Mr Baphuthologi Kgari said they had lost two critical areas being Maun West and Okavango in the past elections.

Mr Kgari said the two constituencies were originally BDP strongholds hence starting workshops in those areas to revive the party structures. He said they were conducting evaluations to establish why they lost those constituencies, adding that the BDP was able to win back Ngami and Chobe from opposition parties.

On the same note, Mr Kgari said they would hold similar events in Chobe District to revive the party structures.

For his part, the BDP North West committee party secretary general, Mr Frisco Gabokakangwe said they have realised that many youth left their party for opposition parties. Mr Gabokakangwe said it showed that the BDP was not doing something right by losing majority of young people while the BDP had many youth focused programmes in place.

He pointed that they will come up with strategies to retain youth in the BDP and win back those who left. The youth, he said were integral to the party since they were the future leaders. Mr Gabokakangwe also said they will engage members who were not committed since they lost primary elections. ENDS
