Swaziland High Commissioner, Chief Senzangakhona Dlamini and Israel ambassador, Mr Gershon Kedar presented credentials to President Lt Gen. Seretse Khama Ian Khama at Office of President on February 13.
Chief Dlamini said in an interview after presentation of credentials that he intended to strengthen areas of cooperation in education, agriculture, science and technology. He said Swaziland and Botswana had long standing relations in education through the University of Botswana, Lesotho, Swaziland system, which needs to be revived.
He also said Swaziland was interested in knowing more about Botswana’s mining sector, hence exchange programmes between Swazi students and Batswana in the area of mining would be ideal. Chief Dlamini further noted that recently Swaziland established a technological park and that they might be coming to Botswana on a benchmarking mission.
Mr Kedar said he will spare no efforts to strive to deepen and widen bilateral relations and initiate new projects of cooperation between the two countries. He said Botswana could learn a lot in technological advancements in agriculture from Israel.
"Israeli expertise in high technology in seeds, irrigation, soil science and effective agricultural tools can make the yields much better,” he said. Mr Kedar said he will strengthen cooperation in economic trades between Botswana and Israel by ensuring that Israel business community invests in Botswana.
He further said he has visited the University of Botswana medical school that is still at its infancy and that a lot can be learned from Israel in the field of medicine. ENDS
