Guma urges BDP members to Unite

27 Jan 2015

The Member of Parliament for Tati East, Mr Samsom Guma has urged Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) members to unite and serve Batswana with dignity.

Speaking at a political rally prior to the Moshupa West ward election re-run penciled for January 31, Mr Guma said his party was vested with the responsibility of running the country and therefore its members should behave in a dignified way.

He said as the re-run date nears, members should put their personal interests aside and vote their candidate, Mr Motlhatlosi Kelobang in large numbers. He also urged the candidate to handle himself in a respectable way after he is voted into council. This, he noted, was due to the fact that as a BDP councillor, he would be regarded as a representative of the party president.

He further urged voters to ensure that their representative was always on his best behaviour in order to gain respect from Batswana. He regretted that many politicians had fallen because they did not respect their voters.

For his part, Kanye North MP, Mr Patrick Ralotsia urged Moshupa West voters to vote Mr Kelobang in large numbers so that he could complete the eight BDP council team in their constituency. He said voting for the opposition candidates would be a waste of time as their motions would not hold water at council level.

He said by voting for Mr Kelobang, they would be ensuring that they benefit from existing BDP programmes that were intended to improve the lives of Batswana. He further urged voters to be patient on the by-election day because every vote will make a difference.

For his part, the candidate, Mr Kelobang assured constituents that he was committed to working tirelessly for the development of their ward.

He said it was no doubt that the initiatives of the BDP led government were targeting different challenges that the nation was facing and offering solutions to each particular challenge.

Mr Kelobang will be standing against Mr Tomanyane Sethibe of the BCP and Mr Abraham Motlogelwa of the UDC in an election re-run. The bye-election   comes after the BDP and BCP got 759 votes each in the 2014 general election, while Mr Motlogelwa trailed behind with 333 votes. The re-run will be held on January 31. ENDS
