The constitution recognises nominated councillors and they should be given the respect they deserve, says the Member of Parliament for Letlhakeng-Lephepe, Mr Liakat Kablay.

Speaking in a kgotla meeting in Letlhakeng recently, Mr Kablay dismissed statements that specially nominated councillors were unnecessary and a waste of resources. He said such councillors added value to councils.

Mr Kablay urged nominated councillors to serve the people regardless of their party affiliations and also urged elected councillors in his constituency to work in unity and leave politics aside He also thanked residents for voting for him as their MP for the second time. 

“This really shows that you have faith in me and you trust that I can bring necessary developments into your area, I really appreciate it and promise to tireless work for you,” he said.

He said his office was open for everyone whether they voted for him or not as he understood the nature of politics. Mr Kablay also urged residents to consult his office when they had grievances, adding that he would not be able to meet them constantly as the constituency was now bigger.

For his part, the Village Development Committee umbrella chairperson, Mr Rahim Batshwaregi complained that when Mphuthe Junior Secondary School relocated to its current location, the old structure was abandoned without any proper consultation as to who should take care of it.

He said this has led to the old structure being looted with impunity. He also wondered what happened to the rent paid by the Chinese construction company that had rented part of the structure. ENDS
