VP attends Nyusis inauguration

15 Jan 2015

The Vice President, Mr Mokgweetsi Masisi, attended the inauguration ceremony of the newly elected Mozambique president, Mr Filipe Nyusi earlier today (January 15).

Mr Masisi, who is also the Minister of Education and Skills Development, was accompanied by former president, Sir Ketumile Masire.

Mr Nyusi, a former defence minister, was elected as Mozambique’s fourth president since independence in 1975. The ruling Frelimo party won 57 per cent of the vote in the October 2014 general and presidential elections.

Botswana and Mozambique enjoy excellent bilateral relations underpinned by strong and close historical ties which date back to the liberation struggle of Mozambique. To assist both countries to achieve tangible and sustainable development, Botswana established a diplomatic mission in Mozambique in 2012.

The mission was also meant to provide the requisite complimentary to the Mozambican High Commission in Gaborone. The Vice President and his entourage are expected back home today. ENDS
