Maphane leads Sowa council
10 Dec 2014
Councillor George Maphane has been elected as the new mayor of Sowa Town Council.
Cllr Maphane together with his deputy, Cllr Otsile Machona were elected unopposed at a special council meeting on December 5.
In his maiden speech, Mayor Maphane said he was taking up the leadership position to be part of a team that would bring change in the development of the town. He said working together as a team would allow them to reach the same goal that they would like to achieve.
“Together we should roll up our sleeves and do work that is supposed to be done,” he said. Mayor Maphane said he would open up for advice from fellow councilors and the public officers and share with them all the necessary information.
Furthermore, he said they should leave behind a legacy hence the need to work hard to make a positive impact. “For us to prosper, we need to pull together, a weakest link would pull us off,” he said.
For his part, the former mayor Cllr Allan Lekwapa appealed to the staff of both central and local government to afford the new leadership the much need support.
Working together as team, he said, would help them take their town to new heights, noting that the leadership as well should not act as though they are above everybody else, because doing so would lead to failures as bad attitudes would develop which would ultimately make work suffer.
He said he would be available to give advice to the new leadership and urged them to consult and engage with other stakeholders. ENDS
