'Vote for quality representation'
04 Nov 2014
Southern District councillors have been advised not to elect council committee members on political party lines but rather consider individual capability.
Deputy council secretary, Ms Lenah Mahalelo said this during the orientation of councillors in Kanye on November 3. She urged them to consider capability for the sake of service delivery. She decried that voting along party lines sometimes undermined potential.
She said SDC had made strides in service delivery over the years because councillors had always voted for capable representation as opposed to party lines. Meanwhile some councillors also complained that political parties had infiltrated most of the village development committees around the district.
As a result, they said the VDCs now served party interests at the expense of the will of the people they were intended to represent. ENDS
