Palapye sub-council infrastructure needs maintenance
10 Mar 2013
Most of Palapye Sub-district Council infrastructure has not been maintained for a number of years.
Though there is need to maintain such buildings, the council chairperson, Mr Onneetse Ramogapi said maintenance was not done due to shortage of funds.
Mr Ramogapi, who was addressing councillors during a sub-council meeting, said the state of the infrastructure would continue to be in a deteriorating state since there was no budget increase for maintenance of grounds and buildings in the next financial year.
However, he said the maintenance section would continue to attend to critical areas in order to keep them in a usable and habitable state.
On other issues, he said the council did not undertake any major development projects as no funds were availed for such. He said the council would construct a mechanical workshop, which would be financed through different financial years until fully completed.
Undertaking such a development, he said, would ensure that council vehicles were maintained cost effectively.
He said the housing for the needy project, which started in the current financial in Tamasane, Diloro, Goo-Sekgweng, Malaka and Moreomabele was still ongoing. “I am happy to inform you that these houses are about to be completed with the average progress of the project at 85 per cent,” said Mr Ramogapi.
He said the project would go a long way in providing shelter for underprivileged families, adding that the expectation was to roll out this project to other villages in future. ENDS
