Return Chobe to BDP - Khama
22 Oct 2014
Residents of Chobe have been advised to vote for the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) for both the parliamentary and council seats.
Speaking during a political rally in Kasane on October 21, BDP leader, Lt Gen. Seretse Khama Ian Khama said it was surprising that people predominantly voted BDP in council seats yet they went for an opposition Member of Parliament (MP).
“This constituency belongs to BDP, there are more of us here than opposition parties,” he noted. The President noted that this year’s election campaigns were big and had stirred excitement amongst voters.
“It is up to you therefore to choose the direction you want Botswana to follow,” he said adding that “if you choose opposition, you are taking the country backwards but if you choose BDP you are moving it forward.”
President Khama noted that opposition politicians were using wildlife and public servants as campaign tools in the area. “You must know that wildlife is your diamond in Chobe, that is why we are spending so much money to bring infrastructure to Kasane and Maun to turn them into tourism hubs,” he said.
He added that the idea to bring developments to these places emanated from BDP and not opposition MPs as some have been led to believe. President Khama’s ultimate goal he said is to ensure that government is not in debt when he vacates the office after five years.
Campaign manager for the area, Mr Bobby Setlhare promised to capture both the parliamentary and council seats for the Botswana Democratic Party.
Still at the rally, Mr Joseph Nkwane praised BDP for availing policies and programmes to every Motswana irrespective of their political affiliation.
Giving a testimony, Mr Nkwane said that together with his wife they were funded for a horticultural project through Citizen Entrepreneurial Development Agency (CEDA) despite being members of the opposition parties. “If you want to hang yourself, vote for BCP,” he warned adding that the party is a splinter group from the Botswana National Front.
BDP’s national campaign manager Mr Alec Seametso took a swipe at some of the media establishments saying that opposition politicians were using them to drive their own agenda. ENDS
