20 Oct 2014

Botswana Democratic Party Party (BDP) chairman, Dr Ponatshego Kedikilwe has urged constituents in the Francistown West constituency to vote for the party’s parliamentary candidate, Mr Ignatius Moswaane in the Friday general elections.

Addressing a political rally at Gerald Estate on October 16, Dr Kedikilwe said Mr Moswaane was a representative of a party that had good policies aimed at the improvement of Batswana’s lives therefore he must be voted.

He said the candidate had proved his ability of representing the people during his tenure as the Monarch councilor and as the mayor of Francistown. He said, while Mr Moswaane was still serving as a councilor, he contributed to the Monarch infrastructure and also served in various committees.

He said Mr Moswaane formed the Monarch Community Development Organisation and has assisted 106 women and 174 youth in preparing business plans. He said BDP’s government had already indicated its commitment to improving the lives of Batswana through initiatives such as ISPAAD, housing people through the Presidential Housing Appeal and youth empowerment programmes, amongst others.

Dr Kedikilwe,  also the country’s Vice President, said through the Presidential Housing Appeal over 400 houses had been built for the disadvantaged members of different communities. The BDP chairman also indicated that his party was not only interested in infrastructural developments but also encouraged people to promote their culture; hence the President’s Day celebrations.

BDP parliamentary candidate, Mr Moswaane urged the electorate to vote for him and all the BDP council candidates as their party had better policies than those of the opposition.

He said opposition representatives should not be voted because they were hypocrites who only want to confuse voters. Moselewapula council candidate, Mr Lechedzani Modenga urged the residents of Gerald Estates to vote for the BDP in large numbers as the party relocated them from the congested Somerset and Matjimenga squatters to decent residential places in Gerald Estates.

The assistant campaign manager, Ms Angelinah Sengalo said she was optimistic that Francistown West constituency would be one of the 57 constituencies that BDP will win.

She encouraged voters in the constituency not to be misled by the independent candidates who claim that they will rejoin the BDP after winning the general elections.
Mr Zazambi Tuelo, who is the campaign manager, said BDP deserved to be voted into power because unlike the opposition parties it has a traceable record. Ends
