Organisations mobilise Christians for polls

20 Oct 2014

The faith-based sector represented by Evangelical Fellowship of Botswana (EFB), Botswana Council of Churches (BCC) and Organization of African Instituted Churches have agreed to collaborate to mobilise the Christians to make meaningful contributions in the October 24 general elections.

A press release from the BCC stated that this would be achieved through an election observer mission and post election forum, where policy issues identified in the whole electoral process would be consolidated and shared with relevant structures.

The statement appealed to all Batswana, through their various portfolios, be it the electoral body and agents, political parties and their agents, the electorate, the wider society and the security forces, to ensure that the elections are held within a peaceful environment.

The release also stated that the church committed itself to offer prayers and continued mediation as the nation goes through the election process and that the Christian community in Botswana remained committed to promoting democracy, good governance and peace.

All churches across the country were therefore urged to continue with prayers and supplications for a peaceful election. ENDS
