Send Hambira to parliament

14 Oct 2014

The chairman of Botswana Democratic Party (BDP), Dr Ponatshego Kedikilwe says it would be a grave mistake if Gaborone Central constituency voters do not give their parliamentary candidate, Rev. Rupert Hambira their vote on October 24.

Speaking during Rev. Hambira’s launch on October 11, Dr Kedikilwe urged supporters to take their candidate to Parliament because he was not only credible but also had  necessary requisites.

He said it they could heed his request, it would be a positive sign that they wanted to eliminate youth unemployment which his party was aggressively addressing.  BDP chairman said it would be a sad thing not to vote BDP, which was committed to fighting all socio-economic problems, chief among them, poverty.

Dr Kedikilwe, who will retire from public life at the end of October, appealed democrats to unite and guard against any derailment by any of the opposition parties, which have nothing to offer the country.

He further told the rally that the BDP government was committed to developing as well as ensuring that the public service was well taken care of, particularly that even in the remotest areas, the government was offering some inducement allowance which positively attract civil servants to rural areas.

In addition he noted that the government had made initiatives which allowed civil servants to engage in business so that they could upgrade their lives.

Speaking at the same rally, Parliamentary candidate for Gaborone North constituency Mr Keletso Rakhudu said by electing Rev. Hambira, voters would ensure continuity in ensuring a prosperous Botswana.

As such, voters should not pay attention to opposition parties as they have nothing to offer the country, in terms of socio-economic development, he said.

Another speaker Mr Kagiso Molatlhegi, who is also parliamentary candidate for Gaborone South Constituency, told the rally that his party was committed to addressing and advocating for issues concerning climate change.

He noted that it was a great concern that opposition parties never aggressively deliberated on the issue even though it was a major problem affecting all people across political divide.

For his part, Rev. Hambira said upon being elected to parliament, he will ensure that education is one of his priorities, noting that tertiary students will be afforded all the necessities that they require in their daily lives, particularly because they are future leaders of the country.

Rev. Hambira also said he would strive for better housing for most Batswana through Self Help Housing Agency Scheme (SHHA) as most people are living in pitiable houses.

He said by electing him to parliament, the electorate should rest assured that their wishes as well as their aspirations will be well taken care of. ENDS
