Vote for people with good qualities Khama
12 Oct 2014
President Lt Gen. Seretse Khama Ian Khama has appealed to residents of Maun West to vote for people who are respectful, responsible, loving, compassionate and honest.
Speaking at a Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) star rally in Maun West on Friday, October 10 President Khama said Mr Reaboka Mbulawa was one such individual as he has proven to be responsible and shown good leadership qualities.
He said Mr Mbulawa and BDP council candidates were capable of representing their needs and aspirations diligently.
President Khama said the current Member of Parliament for the area, Mr Tawana Moremi, has no good leadership qualities and has failed his constituents.
He said Mr Moremi has failed to demonstrate love and compassion to his followers and urged the electorate to punish him in the coming general election by voting for the ruling party.
“I do not discourage you to love your paramount chief, but you should not vote for him on October 24. Tawana is my younger brother and I will always support and assist him when he needs my help even if he attacks me,” he added.
President Khama noted that Batawana and Bangwato have a common history which unites the two tribes hence they need to maintain that unity.
He said it was not a sin for Mr Moremi to have joined an opposition party, but emphasised that he should respect his position as a kgosi and display acceptable behaviour.
President Khama said it was important for voters to vote for the BDP as it was a trustworthy party which has improved the livelihoods of Batswana.
He said opposition parties have empty policies and programmes which could not transform the lives of Batswana
He added that North West District was a BDP stronghold, urging the electorate to ensure that all the five constituencies were won by the ruling party.
He said Batswana should retain the BDP as the governing party as it still has plans to continue to improve the livelihoods of Batswana. ENDS
