Vote BDP in large numbers - Khama

02 Oct 2014

Voters in Mochudi East constituency have been urged to vote the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) back into government to secure their future.

Speaking at a BDP star rally in Malolwane on October 1, President Lt Gen. Seretse Khama Ian Khama and also BDP leader, asked voters to correct the mistake they made in the past 20 years when they voted for opposition parties.

President Khama said when he visited different villages during BDP rallies, Batswana had promised to correct the mistakes they had made by voting opposition members. He further said the numbers of people leaving opposition ranks to join BDP showed that they were doing things the right way while they were unhappy with current status of opposition parties.

Therefore, he urged democrats to vote the aspiring Member of Parliament for Mochudi East, Rev Mpho Moruakgomo because he was a visionary leader and he would be able to work easily with him. He told voters that every one’s vote was important so all should make sure they vote in large numbers.

Lt Gen. Khama denied reports that they were planning to rig the elections as reported in some newspapers adding that the ruling party would never perform such an act. He said Botswana government cherished democracy and fair elections and nothing like that would ever happen in the country.

President Khama further said the opposition parties continues to paint the good name of BDP in a bad way arguing that Batswana knows the party very well and him personally adding he would continue to meet Batswana and address their problems the best way possible.

He admitted that they had not been able to do all things according to plan due to challenges they met, but the situation would be remedied especially that the economic situation looks promising for shelved projects to be completed.

One of the speakers at the rally, Mr Kagiso Ntime said he had worked with Rev Moruakgomo for a long time at the National youth Council and African Youth Alliance where he proved his leadership capabilities.

He asked Bakgatla not to be confused during elections day because they had a visionary leader who had the ability to change their constituency for the better.

Mr Ntime said BDP has done a lot to improve the lives of Batswana through different government programmes which have changed their lives for good.

He said the calibre of people like Rev Moruakgomo is needed in parliament to help Botswana achieve more through the capacity to bring change in the lives of Batswana.

Another speaker, Rev Rupert Hambira who will be standing for Gaborone Central said if there was something which the current government want to address is to eradicate poverty.

He said President Khama does not like to see Batswana suffering in poverty while he knows he can help them and that is why he wants to see them living dignified lives.

The parliamentary candidate for Mochudi East, Rev Moruakgomo implored voters to vote for him because he has good plans that would change their constituency for the better.

He said one of the things he would like to do is to turn the river villages into a special horticultural zone where production would create employment and improved lives for the residents of those villages.

Further, he said his works speak for himself as a man who is able and can deliver on time as shown during his tenure at Kgatleng District Council.

He also encouraged fellow democrats to campaign more and prepare for victory in October. Ends
