Kerwepe trustworthy

21 Sep 2014

President Lt Gen.Seretse Khama Ian Khama has urged voters in the Ngami area to elect Botswana Democratic Party’s prospective parliamentary candidate, Mr Thato Kwerepe as their Member of Parliament in the upcoming general elections.

Speaking at a rally held in Etsha 6 on Friday, September 19, President Khama said that Kwerepe had proven to be a trustworthy person during his reign as the secretary of BDP at a time when the party was torn apart by factions.

“He helped me a lot in healing those factions hence I trust that he can work well with the community driven by love,” he said.

The President also encouraged all those who have registered to go and vote, adding that the party needed to not only win but to do so with a big margin.

“You should not just sit and assume that we will win, we must all vote in order to win because opposition members will definitely vote,” he warned.

President Khama also noted that rumours that he does not care about livestock are not true because if he did not, his government would not be coming up with programs that support livestock.

He added that such rumours are typical of the BCP.

“They are just saying that because they know that Batswana will not vote them in power, they do not have anything better to say,” he said.

Opposition Members of Parliament (MP), he said, do not table issues from their constituencies so that they can keep blaming BDP for the lack of developments in their areas.

President Khama acknowledged that he is aware that life is not easy for people living around the Ngami area but said that the government was doing its best to ensure that their lives improve for the better.

“I know that you have more challenges compared to people in other districts, I come to Shakawe every other month to relax but I get to engage with some of you on how life is up here,” he said.
Maun West prospective parliamentary candidate, Mr Reaboka Mbulawa highlighted that the tourism sector had created 41 000 jobs for citizens which he said was good development.

He added that the BDP led government successfully fought tsetse fly, lung disease and now Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) in the Ngami area.

He noted that BCP is only ready to lead the opposition, but not ready to lead the nation.
For his part, Mr Kwerepe explained that contrary to rumours doing the rounds, Lake Ngami will not be fenced but will be run as a trust.

Still at the rally, BDP welcomed new 143 members from the BCP. ENDS
