16 Sep 2014

Japan’s new ambassador to Botswana, Mr Masahiro Onishi presented his letters of credence to President Lt Gen. Seretse Khama Ian Khama on September 16.

Ambassador Oshini was appointed new ambassador following the end of the three-year term of the former ambassador, Mr Hiroyasu Kobayashi in August.

Presenting his letters of credence to President Khama, Ambassador Oshini said he had been in Botswana for a week and was already enjoying the country.

Speaking in an interview, Ambassador Oshini expressed gratitude for having been afforded the opportunity to represent the Japanese government and its people in Botswana.

“I am very happy to work here. And I know that our two countries have enjoyed a cordial relationship for a long time. So, it is my duty to increase such a friendly relationship from now on,” he said.

To further strengthen the relationship between Botswana and Japan, Ambassador Oshini said his biggest concern was the digital broadcasting system.

He said he was happy that Botswana had decided to introduce the Japanese digital broadcasting system, adding that Japan would make the outmost effort to support Botswana with the introduction of the system. ends
