08 Sep 2014

Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) has a team of capable leaders who can transform the country to prosperity, the party's prospective parliamentary candidate for Francistown South, Mr Wynter Mmolotsi has said.

Mr Mmolotsi was speaking during the launch of Francistown East prospective parliamentary candidate, Ms Theresa Mmolawa and a team of council candidates on September 6.

He urged UDC members to vote in large numbers in the October 24 general elections. Mr Mmolotsi who is also the Botswana Movement for Democracy (BMD) deputy leader stated that sending more UDC party leaders to Parliament would be a step forward to bring about change in the country.

He also appealed to voters not to vote BDP or BCP parties and urged them to work as a team to win all the council wards. In addition, he stated that they were ready and prepared to embrace change and improve the lives of the people.

Mr Mmolotsi urged voters to vote leaders who were inspired to lead the nation peacefully and those who understood people’s challenges. For his part, BMD leader, Mr Ndaba Gaolathe said the time had come to utilise UDC programmes that had been initiated by the late Mr Gomolemo Motswaledi.

He also urged electorates in Francistown East to do themselves a favour and change their lives for the better by voting for UDC. Mr Gaolathe said Botswana was no longer the peaceful country that people used to know and encouraged the electorates to vote for UDC to reclaim back the country’s democratic credentials.

Consequently, BOEFEPUSU executive, Mr Johnson Motshwarakgole stated that he came to appeal to Francistown East constituents to vote for Ms Mmolawa because she was a unique leader.

He said Ms Mmolawa has dedicated her life to the struggles of public servants even during the infamous public service strike and cautioned them not to lose focus on polling day. He said that the country needed new leaders who could account for the government’s funds and those with integrity.

For his part, prospective parliamentary candidate for Gabane/Mankgodi constituency, Mr Pius Mokgware informed electorates that the opportunity to elect new leaders came once every five years and therefore encouraged them to make the right choice by voting UDC so that they would not regret their choices.

The electorates were also cautioned against being lured to vote for the ruling party through blanket donations.

BMD Youth league president, Mr Phenyo Segokgo assured residents that they have spread the gospel of UDC countrywide for young people to embrace change and said in Tlokweng, everyone wanted change, hence the need for Francistown East youth to embrace it.  ENDS
