Rantleru can change Lobatse - Rapelana

04 Sep 2014

Chairperson of the Botswana Congress Party (BCP) Ms Motsei Rapelana has implored voters in Lobatse to rally behind prospective parliamentary candidate, Mr Ellias Rantleru in the coming general elections.

Ms Rapelana said Mr Rantleru was capable of advocating for the aspiration of Lobatse residents, noting that Lobatse had lost its dignity and it was only Mr Rantleru who could change that.

Speaking at Mr Rantleru’s and BCP 12 Council hopefuls launch on Saturday August 30, Ms Rapelana said some industries which were in Lobatse had been relocated to other places, hence the town lost its dignity and pride.

She said Mr Rantleru has demonstrated leadership qualities when serving in different committees where he performed well.

Ms Rapelana said unlike other candidates who relocated from other areas, Mr Rantleru was the rightful candidate to represent the constituency because he was a resident, aware of challenges faced by the youth.

She appealed to Mr Rantleru and the council candidates to work closely with voters so that they understand their needs, noting that they should always be guided by the party’s manifesto.

Ms Rapelana further said BCP had a large contingent of youthful leaders fielded to stand for elections as compared to other parties, adding that it was the only party with a shadow cabinet.

She said if voted into power, the BCP would ensure that the Botswana Meat Commission (BMC) creates more jobs for Lobatse residents given its by-products such as hides.

She also mentioned shoe and polish factories, which she said could be built in Lobatse as subsidiaries of the BMC.

Ms Rapelana said Lobatse could have long been transformed into an industrial hub given the fact that it was the first town in Botswana.

For his part, Kanye South prospective  parliamentary candidate, Mr Pako Madigele said Mr Rantleru was a youthful and valuable candidate who could steer development.

He said Lobatse youth had migrated to other towns because of lack of employment.

Another speaker, Mr Tumiso Rankgare said BCP shuns corruption and urged residents of Lobatse to vote for Mr Rantleru.

Mr Dithapelo Keorapetse said the youth were left behind in development although they formed the majority of the population, adding that when in power his party was going to assist the youth to start up viable businesses that would employ others.

He also said BCP pledges to offer free education to all as well as establish public preschools.

For his part, Mr Rantleru said if voted into Parliament, he would advocate for better wages for people working in shops and also encourage carpenters and plumbers to strive to establish furniture shops and hardware. Ends
