Mahalapye councillor appeals to parents

05 Mar 2013

Mahalapye Sub-Council chairperson, Mr Moatshe Senai has urged parents to provide stationery for their primary school going children.

When opening the sub-council meeting on Monday, Mr Senai said the sub-council was facing a great challenge of shortage of stationery especially at primary school level. Therefore, he appealed to parents to help provide the stationery where there was a shortage.

On other issues, he condemned government institutions and the community for not paying for services such as solid waste collection. That, he said, defeated the council's objective of recouping costs incurred.

He also complained about shortage of vehicles saying the fleet was far less than what was required for the smooth running of the sub-council. Most of the vehicles, he said, were old and prone to breakdowns hence increasing maintenance costs.

In addition, he highlighted that vehicle replacement rate was low due to budgetary constraints. While maintenance of internal roads was going well with 3.3 km completed, Mr Senai said maintenance of streetlights was slow.  ENDS
