01 Sep 2014
The Vice President, Dr Ponatshego Kedikilwe has cautioned Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) members not to vote candidates who claim to be BDP independent candidates.
Launching Mr Prince Maele as Lerala/Maunatlala BDP prospective parliamentary candidate on August 30, Dr Kedikilwe said democrats should not be fooled by those who claimed to be BDP independent candidates and emphasised they would have made a big mistake should they vote for independent candidates.
He thanked those who lost in the party primary elections and continued to serve the party. Furthermore, Dr Kedikilwe said Mr Maele had proved to be a true leader who brought positive changes to the constituency.
He said under Mr Maele’s guidance, Tswapong area got potable water supply from the newly constructed Lotsane Dam. He said the government also constructed a 174km water pipeline from the dam to 22 Tswapong villages to alleviate the constituency of acute shortage of water.
He said the dam will serve 22 villages of Tswapong, including Tamasane, Diloro, Kgagodi and Mogapinyana villages. In addition he said plans were underway to open Lerala Diamond Mine, adding that Mantle Diamond was in the process of accruing funds to start production at the mine.
He said opening of the mine will create employment as well as grow the economy of the country. Dr Kedikilwe urged the constituents to vote for Mr Maele so that he continued bringing developments in the area.
Speakers at the launch described Mr Maele as an intellectual who made a positive impact in parliament through his contribution in motions and bills brought before parliament.
Prospective Parliamentary candidate for Shoshong Mr Phillip Makgalemele said Mr Maele is known for his ability to make intensive research prior to debating motions.
He also stated that Mr Maele understood his representative role and ensured that the government delivered on its programmes and policies.
Prospective parliamentary candidate for Palapye Mr Moiseraele Goya said there was only one parliamentary seat for the constituency which was contested by BDP members during the party’s primary elections last year.
He said Mr Maele remained victorious in the primary elections hence will represent BDP in the general elections.
He said it was unfair for those who lost to stand against Mr Maele as independent candidates, adding that they were defying the decision taken by BDP members.
He urged BDP members to ensure that BDP retains the constituency.
The constituency’s campaign manager Ms Mmabesi Olopile said she and her team were working hard to pave way for BDP to retain the constituency.
She said most wards had independent candidates’ representation, however she said she and her team would ensure that BDP remained victorious in the coming 2014 general elections billed for October 24th.
For his part Mr Maele asked the constituents to vote for him and prospective council candidates in the coming general elections to continue delivering on his promises.
He said he made an immense contribution in the improvement of school results in his area and would work hard to take his constituency to greater heights.
Mr Maele said he also managed to bring electricity to Malaka village and electrification of schools and teachers’ houses at Moremi, Manaledi and Mokungwane.
He said he would continue to serve his people with honesty and respect. ENDS
