No more electorates transfers
01 Sep 2014
Voter transfers closed on August 28, according to the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) principal elections officer, Mr Jacob Motlhanka.
Mr Motlhanka said this during kgotla meetings addressed by MP for Molepolole North, Mr Gaotlhaetse Matlhabaphiri.
He further stated that voters roll inspection had since been closed but people whose names had been rejected in the roll could be assisted. Furthermore, he disclosed that replacements of lost registration cards will continue until a day before the elections.
Therefore electorates were urged to go and vote in large numbers at their places of registration. He also encouraged those eligible to vote to renew their expired identity cards.
Voters were further reminded that on elections day, polling stations will open from 6:30 a.m hours to 7 p.m, but provisions would be made in instances where queues will remain after closing time. Henceforth everyone will get a chance to exercise their right to vote.
Voters were cautioned to go and vote carefully by avoiding making mistakes such as voting twice so as to make their vote count. He further cautioned them to wear neutral colours on the day of elections to facilitate the smooth running of the elections process.
For their part, residents complained about the constant water pipe bursts citing that thorough inspection should had been carried out prior to Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) inheriting the system from department of Water Affairs, this they said would have been instrumental in avoiding bursts that lead to wastage and shortage of water.
Some residents said Ipelegeng must be stopped because it contributes to people’s misery and poverty.
Responding to their concerns, Mr Matlhabaphiri acknowledged that WUC should have inspected the water carrier system but said there was a lot of pressure from the public demanding water supply.
He however told residents that they will not run out of water since the supply is more than the demand. He also said WUC staff is working constantly to repair any damages or leakages. He appealed to residents to report any leakages to WUC as soon as possible.
Commenting on Ipelegeng, he said it is a social safety net therefore it is not permanent.
He said Ipelegeng workers appreciate the programme because they benefit from it. He urged Ipelegeng workers to register for poverty eradication programmes to improve their livelihood. ENDS
