27 Aug 2014

Former president, Mr Festus Mogae has urged Palapye constituents to send Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) prospective parliamentary candidate, Mr Moiseraele Goya back to Parliament in the coming general elections.

Launching Mr Goya in Palapye over the weekend, Dr Mogae said with the existing infrastructure, Palapye had the potential to create more jobs for Palapye community through Foreign Direct Investment.

He said the available infrastructure was a foundation that was laid with the leadership of Mr Goya, adding that Palapye witnessed a boom in development projects which include, among others, Botswana International University of Science and Technology (BIUST), Morupule B Power Station, new police station, Steel pipe factory, glass manufacturing project and the new bus rank.

He said Mr Goya had proven to be a hard working leader, who was committed to change the phase of Palapye from a village into an industrial town. He said for Mr Goya to continue where he left off, Palapye constituents should therefore vote for him and council hopefuls.

Mr Mogae, who is also BIUST chancellor, said Mr Goya does not only serve the community of Palapye, but is also a member of the Pan African Parliament and also the former chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee.

For her part, Minister of Trade and Industry, Ms Dorcas Makgato-Malesu said Mr Goya was conversant with economic issues; hence he was in a better position to make Palapye an economic hub.

Ms Makgato-Malesu said the glass manufacturing project had not been abandoned, but was under liquidation with a view to find technical partners to continue with the project. For his part, Mr Goya said when he started in Parliament in 2008; the country was faced with the economic recession, which resulted in the deferring of some projects.

He said however that he defied the odds to ensure that Palapye continued to enjoy more development projects despite the economic situation at the time. He said his dream is to transform Palapye into an industrial city and could only achieve it if BDP members vote for him in the coming general elections.

Mr Goya, who is also the incumbent MP, said during his tenure as the area MP, he had supported Palapye community in various ways, citing organisations such as Kopano Rehabilitation Centre, House of Hope, the under priviledged, Palapye hospital and fencing of Swallows football pitch. ends
