Stergling canvasses for votes

27 Aug 2014

Botswana Congress Party (BCP)’s prospective parliamentary candidate for Moshupa/Manyana constituency, Reverend Benny Stegling has urged contituents to vote for his party in the October 24 general elections.

Rev. Stergling said at a BCP rally in Moshupa on August 23 that his party was ready to lead and advocate for better living conditions for Batswana. He said when the BCP takes over power in October, the party would give education first priority by first introducing pre-schools to improve education.

He said the deterioration of education in Botswana was made poor by the ruling BDP and that subsequently their children were attending English medium schools at the expense of Batswana. The aspirant politician said there was corruption in the country that should be addressed and thus he appealed for votes to give BCP a chance to lead.

He said BDP had stopped hunting licenses, which used to be given to underprivileged people in remote areas, instead the rich party members kept wild animals in their ranches which they obtained corruptly.

Rev. Stergling told the gathering that by voting for BCP they would be saving the country from challenges of corruption and oppression. He added that Batswana should grab the opportunity to make changes, hence the need for them to vote in large numbers.

The pastor indicated that Batswana who got blankets as donation championed by the presidency were only being made poorer, adding that Ipelegeng was not permanent work but only oppression.

He said most of Batswana were dying at an early stage due to poverty and that fi voted into power he was going to ensure that Moshupa village has hospital as the residents have requested.

He added that the ruling party constructed Boys Prison in the village instead of giving the hospital priority: “we demand the construction of the hospital immediately,’’ he said.

Rev. Stergling said unemployment was a big problem which the BCP had a solution to including youth problems such as unemployment and migration to cities and towns to look for jobs.

He said he was concerned about mushrooming of churches in Botswana which cheated Batswana by requesting money from followers daily.Another speaker, who is the current BCP councilor for Moshupa West ward, Mr Olebogeng Sethibe, said public servants were underpaid and had generally poor working conditions; as such, they should vote for BCP for a better living.

He criticised government programmes saying they had failed altogether, adding that backyard gardening had totally failed to work for Moshupa people. Councilor Sethibe called upon residents of Moshupa to reject the current MP for Moshupa Mr. Mokgweetsi Masisi because he had failed to develop Moshupa.

Mr Sethibe said cattle bye-products, soda ash, diamonds and copper were processed outside Botswana creating jobs in other countries. He criticised programess such ipelegeng and green scorpions as a waste of funds instead of creating permanent jobs for Batswana. Ends
