Vote for Tambula - Dibeela
25 Aug 2014
The leaders of the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) have implored the voters in the Francistown West constituency to vote for Mr Shathiso Tambula in large numbers in the coming general elections.
Speaking at the launch of Mr Tambula who is the UDC’s prospective parliamentary candidate for the constituency, Reverend Prince Dibeela said Mr Tambula was a true leader who did not choose a smooth road by joining the ruling party when he retired from the public service.
He noted that Mr Tambula’s heart for the welfare of Batswana was shown by his willingness in joining the struggle under the UDC. Another speaker, Tati West prospective parliamentary candidate, Mr Richard Gudu encouraged Batswana to vote the BDP out of power in this year’s elections as the party had run out of ideas.
He noted that the recent remarks by the former presidents of the country were a clear indication that even its high ranking members had realised that it was archaic and therefore UDC was the right party to replace it. Mr Gudu urged Batswana not to vote for the Botswana Congress Party (BCP) saying it was only buying time for the BDP and not serious about the lives of the voters.
He said if the BCP was serious about developing Batswana, it could have joined other opposition parties to unseat the BDP from power. Mr Gudu said the BCP was only competent in echoing the same issues that the Botswana Peoples Party (BPP) had advocated for since 1966.
He cited that since 1966, the BPP called for the use of mother tongue as the medium of communication at school and that the land should be fairly allocated. For her part, Francistown East prospective parliamentary candidate, Ms Theresa Mmolawa said UDC was the answer to the problems of Batswana as it had better plans to improve the education system.
Ms Mmolawa said the BDP was taking voters for granted and as it had come up with fake programmes such as Tirelo Setshaba to lure the electorates into voting for it. She said Francistown had been neglected for too long and developments that could assist put it into the status of a city were all done in Palapye, Mahalapye and Serowe.
The UDC regional chairperson, Mr Shadreck Nyeku said UDC was prepared to create employment opportunities. He noted that the BDP government had failed to come up with ways that the abundant natural resources could be used to create jobs but was instead taking the raw materials away to create employment in other countries.
For his part, Mr Tambula said he represented UDC in Francistown West as the party had solutions to the problems of Batswana hence the need for voters to vote it into power. He said Batswana were faced with unemployment and poor service delivery amongst other challenges. Ends
