21 Aug 2014

President Lt Gen. Seretse Khama Ian Khama has assured the nation of quality service under the Botswana Democratic  Party (BDP).

Speaking at a BDP Mmathethe-Molapowabojang star rally in Mmathethe on August 21, he said, BDP was able to provide quality service to all Batswana across political divide, adding that Botswana National Front (BNF) members were joining the BDP in large numbers because it was stable.

The President said BNF was dying a natural death and therefore implored electorates to vote for BDP in large numbers, the party which he said was able to bring quality service nearer to the people.

He was optimistic that Domkrag was going to win the upcoming general elections emphasisng that the party valued freedom of speech in such a way that the opposition parties could say whatever they wished about BDP.

President Khama urged the electorates to ignore mekoko as they were selfish people who did not care about the welfare of the people. He said he was hopeful that the BDP would as well win the Mmathethe-Molapowabojang constituency stressing that the MP for the area, Mr Peter Siele grabbed it from opposition.

The President applauded Mr Siele saying he had done very well for the constituency as an MP and for the country as a cabinet minister. President Khama said many envied Mr Siele for his quality leadership. Mr Siele is also local government and rural development minister.

He therefore urged the youth to emulate Mr Siele noting that if they could, Botswana could excel. The President said October 24 was going to be a public holiday to enable electorates to vote in large numbers.

For his part, Mr Siele said the BDP was built on solid foundation that could not be easily shaken emphasising that the BDP was going to win all the 57 constituencies.

He assured the President that he was going to consider the country first in his service and would continue to serve the BDP where he has been appointed chairperson of the disciplinary committee. Mr Siele said Human Development Index ranked Botswana number 8 in Africa. T

he Human Development Index (HDI) is a composite statistic of life expectancy, education and income indices used to rank countries with regard to human development.

He said worldwide, Botswana was number 14 out of 179 countries that valued freedom of the media or countries that did not have a hostile environment to the media. He said other countries shower Botswana with praises for upholding the principle of democracy and preserving peace.

Mr Siele had an opportunity to hand-over the constituency baton to Dr Alfred Madigele, who is the BDP parliamentary candidate for Mmathethe-Molapowabojang constituency. ENDS
