Phenyo Butale for Gaborone Central

21 Aug 2014

The Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) has announced Mr Phenyo Butale as the party’s prospective parliamentary candidate for Gaborone Central in the October 24 general elections.

The announcement followed the death of Botswana Movement for Democracy (BMD) leader, Mr Gomolemo Motswaledi on July 30, whom UDC had preferred for the constituency.

UDC leader, Mr Duma Boko said at a press briefing in Gaborone on August 20 that the decision to appoint Mr Butale was made by the Gaborone Central branch after assessing potential candidates.

“This trust in local leadership structures is in line with our style of governance, which emphasises fairness and empowering leaders in their local areas,” he said. Mr Boko described Mr Butale as a youthful and capable communicator and an advocate for freedom of the people.

The UDC also appointed Mr Ndaba Gaolathe secretary general and Mr Boko's running mate. The UDC also deployed Rev. Prince Dibeela to focus on matters relating to international relations.

On other issues Mr Boko appealed to the media to get the facts correct in their publications especially those surrounding the death of the BMD leader.

He further said the approach to investigations remained that of parallel investigations, one carried by the normal government police operations and the other by the movement’s private investigations.  ENDS
