Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) leader, Mr Duma Boko has decried the increase of unemployment and poverty in the country.
Mr Boko was launching UDC parliamentary candidate for Kanye South, Mr Abram Kesupile and councilors on August 16 in Kanye.
He told the audience that if Batswana could give his party a mandate to rule, he would create conducive working environment and better wages.
He said challenges such as poverty, unemployment, poor education and land shortage would be solved if there could be a change of leadership, adding that UDC had the welfare of Batswana at heart. He appealed to the electorates to vote wisely and reject the BDP, which he said had failed Batswana.
He said the BDP programmes such as ipelegeng and Tirelo Setshaba did not benefit Batswana because they paid meager wages. He said BDP had failed Batswana for the past 48 years.
The leader said it was time for change and urged Batswana to vote for a responsible, accountable and transparent party. He said UDC was formed by merging three parties to free Batswana and represent their interests.
Another speaker, Rev Prince Dibeela, parliamentary candidate for Mmathethe/Molapowabojang urged Bangwaketse to vote for UDC in the coming elections for a change. Mr Dibeela appealed to church leaders to pray for peace and stability, which he said was vanishing quickly.
Rev Dibeela criticised the BDP leadership for not recruiting followers, but used cash power so that they could vote for them. He said BDP members also enticed Batswana with food, t-shirts, blankets and caps for votes, and after elections they abandoned them. Ends
