BCP launches Kusasa

13 Aug 2014

Members of the Botswana Congress Party (BCP) have implored constituents to vote for the party’s prospective parliamentary candidate for Tati East, Ms Maria Kusasa on October 24 general elections.

Speaking at the launch of Ms Kusasa and prospective council candidates on August 10, Francistown West MP, Dr Habaudi Hobona said there was need for more women to be voted into parliament.

Dr Hobona said Botswana was one of the countries in Africa that were headed by women and it was high time that they were voted into parliament as they understood the needs of the people better.

She said Ms Kusasa should not only be voted because she was a woman but because she was a hard worker. Dr Hobona said BCP was the only party that had the passion for the empowerment of women and so far, they were the only party in the history of Botswana to have a female chairperson.

BCP Youth League secretary general, Mr Leornard Maswibilili said his party had solutions to the problems faced by the youth. Mr Maswiilili said his party believed that programmes such as Tirelo Sechaba and Ipelegeng were not a solution to the high unemployment rate faced by the youth.
He implored Batswana to vote for the BCP prospective candidates in large numbers.

Boteti East prospective parliamentary candidate, Ms Daisy Bathusi said Ms Kusasa should be voted in large numbers as she was involved in a number of programmes aimed at women empowerment.

She noted that Ms Kusasa funded the programmes from her own pocket and voting for her would enable her to advocate for funding of women projects by the government.
Tati West prospective parliamentary candidate, Dr Phillip Bulawa said his party wanted children taught using their mother tongue.

He cited that research had indicated that children who were taught with their mother tongue tended to love school more and performed better.

Dr Bulawa spoke of the need to improve teachers’ accommodation as a way of ensuring the improvement on the students’ academic performance.

For her part, Ms Kusasa pleaded with voters to vote her to parliament as she was prepared to advocate for the increase of old age pensions and ensuring that the unused chunks of land owned by Tati Company and other companies were availed to individual Batswana. ENDS
