UDC eyes Tati East
28 Jul 2014
Francistown South MP, Mr Wynter Mmolotsi has encouraged residents of Tati East constituency to vote for the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) parliamentary candidate, Mr Peter Kutchwe in the coming general elections.
Speaking at the launch of Mr Kutchwe and the 10 council candidates in Tati Siding on July 26, Mr Mmolotsi said the constituency deserved better representation. He urged voters to vote the UDC as it was the only party that had policies that could develop their lives.
Mr Mmolotsi said it was possible for Batswana to change the government, citing that countries such as Zambia, Malawi, South Africa and Lesotho were prove that no matter the years a political party had been in power, it could still be changed.
He also encouraged the electorates not to vote for the Botswana Congress Party (BCP) as it had abandoned opposition unity.
Francistown East UDC parliamentary candidate, Ms Theresa Mmolowa criticised the BDP for what she termed failure to come up with ways of ensuring graduates were self-employed through the introduction of vocational training in the school syllabi.
Ms Mmolawa said UDC was the only party that deserved to be voted into power because it had better development policies. Another speaker, who is also UDC Tati West parliamentary candidate, Mr Richard Gudu said their party was ready to address the land issues.
Mr Gudu condemned the BCP for making the land issue their priority, whereas the Botswana People’s Party (BPP), which is a member of the UDC, had indicated that once voted into power, land will be an issue of priority.
He indicated that in the North East District, land was an issue of concern, citing that in Tati Siding, the land allocation waiting list stood at over 18 000, in Shashe Bridge at over 9 000 while in Masunga the list was over 1800. He said even though the waiting list was very long, there were still chunks of free hold land that were not used.
Boikhutso council candidate, Mr Motlatsi Molapisi urged voters to liberate themselves from land problems by voting for the UDC. He noted that Tati Siding residents were particularly affected by the problem of land allocation as their farming fields were taken up to pave way for residential plots allocation.
For his part, Mr Kutchwe thanked the UDC for allowing him to represent the party in the coming general elections. He noted that a lot needed to be done in the constituency, saying since 2009 after the general elections, the BDP MP neglected the constituency.
Mr Kutchwe said BDP’s failure to create employment opportunities has led to a high number of people enrolling in the Ipelegeng programme. ENDS
