Venson-Moitoi asks democrats to bury hatchet

Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) members in the Gabane-Mmankgodi constituency have been challenged to take part in the on-going campaign to ensure that their party wins the constituency.
Speaking during the official launch of the Gabane-Mmankgodi parliamentary candidate Mr Lesedi Mmusi and 10 council candidates recently, Dr Pelonomi Venson-Moitoi said not only those who rallied behind Mr Mmusi in the Bulela Ditswe exercise can make him win but concerted efforts were required to ensure party’s victory in the October general elections.
“I am very much aware of the fact that Bulela Ditswe execise might have disturbed peace that prevailed among democrats in the area but it is important that as true democrats, we remain focused and concentrate on poaching new members who can join us to enable our win of the constituency,” stated Dr Venson-Moitoi.
She urged democrats to bury their differences and see to it that they make things right by finding what could have caused instability among members and ensure things were normalised.
Dr Venson-Moitoi further urged members to focus on preparing for the election by selling the BDP candidate Mr Mmusi.
She advised BDP members to rally behind Mr Mmusi.
Another democrat, Colonel Duke Masilo assured Mr Mmusi of his support towards ensuring victory, further warning people in the area to guard against campaigns bordering on tribalism.
He further urged democrats to understand there was only one winner in the Bulela Ditswe race which members should rally behind, and therefore called for calm in the party as elections were looming.
Col Masilo further asked the Gabane-Mmankgodi electorates to take BDP as the only reliable party that can be entrusted with the responsibility of leading Batswana.
“I am confident that you clearly know what you want and that you are able to distinguish between right and wrong, therefore I believe you will not make mistakes by taking a chance to consider any political candidate over that of the BDP,” Col Masilo said.
Mr Mmusi assured electorates in the Gabane-Mmankgodi of quality leadership, citing a number of programmes under BDP government that he will continue to advocate for.
The Kweneng South East MP Mr Mmoloki Raletobane pleaded with democrats in the area to focus on ensuring a BDP win.
“I encourage each BDP member in the area to put aside cheap politics and work jointly towards supporting Mr Mmusi’s candidature,” he said. ENDS
