The Vice President, Dr Ponatshego Kedkilwe, has urged residents of Mmadinare constituency to vote for the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) in the coming general elections.
Speaking at the launch of BDP parliamentary candidate for Mmadinare, Mr Kefentse Mzwinila and council candidates on July 12, Dr Kedikilwe said no other party could take over from the BDP in this year’s general elections.
He said the BDP had come a long way in uplifting the livelihoods of Batswana and bringing developments to the country since independence. Currently, he said all the 11 villages that fell under the constituency had portable clean water and had been connected to the power grid.
He said all villages had at least one primary school while others also had junior secondary schools. Dr Kedikilwe, who is also MP for Mmadinare said there were more than 13 primary schools in the constituency, nine junior secondary schools and a state of the art senior secondary school.
He told constituents that Mmadinare had been represented by the BDP for many years and it would not feel right for the area to be represented by a different party.
The Vice President also denounced media as untrue and malicious reports that the government is constructing a P54 million bicycle route used by the President Lt Gen. Seretse Khama Ian Khama.
Dr Kedikilwe said such irresponsible reports tarnish the name and image of President Khama and the BDP. He however called on journalists to report factually and to stop tarnishing peoples’ names.
For her part, the MP for Mahalapye East, Ms Botlogile Tshireletso who attended said the BDP is proud to have a young intelligent parliamentary candidate Mmadinare.
She made Mr Mzwinila aware that he was taking over the constituency from a man of high calibre in the name of Dr Kedikilwe and therefore should be ready to rise up to the occasion.
Ms Tshireletso said Mr Mzwinila has been chairmperson of the BDP youth wing and has advocated for many programmes that had been introduced including the establishment of the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture.
She called on all those that have lost in the primary elections to rally behind the BDP and Mr Mzwinila and his council candidates instead of joining opposition or contesting as independent candidates.
MP Tshireletso called on Mr Mzwinila and his council to work hard to win the coming general elections.
For his part, Mr Mzwinila noted that he and his councilors accepts the responsibility they have been given by constituents to be their parliamentary and council candidates.
“We are here to represent you and we will take heed of your calls, concerns, desires and needs,” he said.
He said they were going to work hard and ensure that all government empowerment programmes are availed in the Mmadinare constituency to better the lives of the residents. ENDS
