Chengeta has MP attributes Motlhagodi

07 Jul 2014

Botswana Congress Party (BCP) parliamentary candidate for Bonnington South constituency, Mr Abby Chengeta has been described as a man who has vision and all the attributes needed for one to be at Parliament.

Speaking at Mr Chengeta's launch together with a team of his councillors at Bophirima Primary School grounds on July 5, party official, Ms Anna Motlhagodi said Mr Chengeta was a capable and approachable man who could lead the nation to greater heights and help it realise its socio-economic dreams.

She, however, wondered whether the country will realise its dream of being prosperous within the less than two years left to achieve the National Vision 2016 pillars.

Ms Motlhagodi, who is a parliamentary candidate for Bonnington North, lamented that under the current government, the budget was not inclusive as many disadvantaged members of the community were left out though the country was reaping from diamonds sales.

She therefore called for rigorous and meaningful citizen economic empowerment.
She therefore called on party followers and the general populace to vote for Mr Chengeta and other BCP members so that all these could come into place.

Speaking at the same launch, Mr Phagenyana Phage, who is also parliamentary candidate for Lentsweletau/Mmopane constituency, said it would be a drawback not to send Mr Chengeta to Parliament because he was a deserving candidate more so that he knew the needs of the people in his area.

He said the area had been deserted by its previous MPs and as such needed someone who really cared and had the love for his constituents at heart. Mr Phage noted that people should associate themselves with his party as it was the only one that could make their lives better and good forever.

According to Mr Phage, who is currently councillor for Mmopane ward, this time around Batswana should make a political change by voting in a new party into power, adding that at parliament members will be free to air their feelings without being necessarily told to toe the line.

Former BCP youth league leader Mr Lotty Manyapedza said the area was poor but interestingly authorities were turning a blind eye to problems besieging this constituency which also needed a 24-hour clinic.

Mr Manyapedza  also castigated the government for taking former Shakawe Senior Secondary School form five students back to form four at the third term while they have missed important two terms.

Launching the long awaited candidate, a party official and members of the central committee Ms Motsei Rapelana said people should rally behind Mr Chengeta as he was ready to serve them with diligence and honesty, which she said was lacking in some political homes.

Ms Rapelana, who is also BCP parliamentary candidate for Gaborone North, regretted the collapse of unity talks which were instigated by one of the parties in the process.

She said learning that some had dubious motives her party pulled back. She however said it was time for everyone to work hard and become committed to the seeing that the party take power it the next general elections.

Ms Rapelana further urged attendants to vote for Mr Chengeta and his team of councillors as they are destined to work with their electorates for the betterment of their lives and bring about positive change which she said has been eluding them for quite a long time. ENDS
