Guard against cheap politics - Tshiping

03 Jul 2014

Democrats in the Lentsweletau/Mmopane constituency have been warned to remain vigilant against cheap politics that are aimed at diverting their focus and rather work towards uniting to ensure that the BDP candidate wins elections.

This was said by Ms Ponatshego Tshiping, a former member of the BDP central committee, at the launch of the party parliamentary candidate for Lentsweletau/Mmopane constituency, Mr Vincent Seretse together with his council candidates.

Mahapye East MP Ms Botlogile Tshireletso said party members should not have been divided by irregularities in the primary elections.  She urged members to unite and map a way forward to avoid similar occurrences in future.

“As party members we should respect the will of the people,” she said. For his part, Molepolole North MP, Mr Gaotlhaetse Matlhabaphiri urged residents of Lentsweletau/Mmopane to entrust Mr Seretse with the responsibility of further driving developments in the area and implementing the BDP’s program of transforming the lives of Batswana.

“To ensure consistency and continuity you must vote Mr Seretse because he is a member of a party with outstanding programs. Don’t vote for an independent candidate because that will be a waste of time. He can’t make an impact because he will be operating without support,” he said.

Molepolole South MP, Mr Daniel Kwelagobe said BDP deserved to continue ruling because its government has drastically improved the country’s education system and provided social safety nets to the less privileged.

He added that the BDP has changed people’s lives for the better and it is the only party fit to rule this nation. “Opposition party members only want to be elected so they can drive their individual selfish interests.  They will not bring anything different from what the BDP government is currently offering Batswana,” he said.

When he took to the podium, Mr Seretse, who is currently a specially elected MP, said he is the only suitable candidate for the constituency and warned residents not to be misled by desperate individuals who are only interested in acquiring positions. Ends
