'BDP track record impressive'
01 Jul 2014
Several speakers at the launch of the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) Tati West parliamentary candidate, Mr Biggie Butale have explained how the party has been able to bring developments to Batswana.
Speaking in Masunga on June 28, former speaker of the National Assembly, Mr Patrick Balopi said the BDP had laid a strong foundation for the development of the country.
He said although developing a country was a long process, the party had done remarkably well in this regard and urged Tati West electorates to vote for the BDP during this year’s general elections, noting that doing so would ensure an uninterrupted delivery of services as well as the continued growth in terms of developments.
Outgoing area MP, Mr Charles Tibone said the party had set a clear track record in terms of its ability to develop the country. He noted that although Botswana was less endowed with natural resources in comparison to other African countries, the prudent leadership of the BDP had over the years ensured that no Motswana lived in deprivation with regard to being able to enjoy basic services.
Focusing on Tati West, Mr Tibone pointed out that at the start of his tenure as MP, the constituency trailed behind in terms of basic yet necessary developments, and since then, a lot had been achieved.
He said when he took over as MP 10 years ago, only Moroka and Gulubane had sufficient water supply, noting however that presently, no village in the entire constituency had to endure having to grapple with water shortages.
Mr Tibone further noted that government had also successfully ensured the connection of all villages in the constituency to the national power grid, observing that only 13 villages had been connected when he assumed office.
Tati East parliamentary candidate and also sitting area MP, Mr Samson Guma hailed the BDP for having worked relentlessly at developing not only Tati West constituency but the entire country. Giving a word of advice to Mr Butale, MP Guma implored him not to neglect his electorates once voted into office.
He appealed to the candidate to take care, in particular of the elderly and the less-privileged, as they were the very people who voted in large numbers, adding that some politicians had developed a habit of neglecting their constituencies once elected.
Mr Guma also encouraged people to go and vote in large numbers, failure of which, he said, would result in the constituency regressing in terms of developments.
Mr Butale urged the electorates to vote for him for the betterment of their own lives. He promised them that he would work hard to turn Tati West into a centre of excellence; something he said would be achieved through working hand-in-hand with public officers in the area to ensure that the public enjoyed quality services.
Mr Butale further stated that if voted into office, he would work at improving education in the constituency. This, he pointed out, would be achieved through ensuring among others, that all schools in the area were equipped with computer laboratories and libraries. ENDS
